Pamir Xenoliths

To unravel the metamorphic reactions and the composition of fluids and melts derived from the reactions that are responsible for elemental recycling in subduction zones, access to the processes occurring during subduction and understanding where the key trace elements, such as Th, La, etc., are stored, are necessary. Unique metasedimentary xenoliths from the Pamir Mountains preserve the record and effects of subduction-zone metamorphism of sediments, and thus provide the needed access to samples that have undergone the processes that control recycling.
