The first report of Tajikistan to protect the rights of migrants were discussed at the 16th session of the UN committee members for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families in Geneva, on April 17.

According to the Migration Service’s press center, in its preliminary questions to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the committee paid particular attention to the problems of labor migrants and the impact of this process on vulnerable populations – children and women.

In its responses, Tajikistan reported that in the years 2012-2013 with the assistance of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the authorities plan to improve the immigration cards to identify more precise indicators of labor migrants from the country.

“The authorities stated that between Tajikistan and the main countries of destination of migrants from the republic there is no visa regime, citizens tend to go legally. They are already illegal in the destination country, if they fail to comply with the rules of residence.

The Tajik authorities have recognized that migration leads to the social consequences, impact on family life, women and children. In the documents, among other things, deals with the fight against transnational organized crime, in particular – in the field of human trafficking, which is closely related to the problems of labor migrants “, – said the UN News Centre.

The head of the Migration Service under the Government Safialo Devonaev, who also spoke at the meeting, took part among the government delegation in the 16th session of the UN to protect the rights of all workers – migrants and their families. (Translated by D.Azizov)
