Tajikistan’s Ikrom Ilhomzoda eyes Chess Olympiad

Dubai-based chess ace Ikrom Ilhomzoda is all set to represent Tajikistan in the 2012 Chess Olympiad.

While most students will spend the summer having fun and relaxing, the Dubai-based ace is preparing for the big event. The 19-year-old Canadian University of Dubai student, who has been awarded the title of Fide (Federation Internationale des Echec) Master by the World Chess Federation, is currently rated second in his home country.

This June, he will head home to compete in a national tournament. If he finishes in the top five – something he is sure will happen – Ikrom will represent Tajikistan at the 40th Chess Olympiad, which is being held in Istanbul, from August 27.
